Somsook Boonyabancha & Community Driven Upgrading

Somsook Boonyabancha shared her insights on her career in developing community-driven initiatives in Asia. The talk was held at The New School on Monday, 4 April 2016. Somsook was joined by Ana Marie Argilagos, Senior Adviser at the Ford Foundation, and Robert Buckley, GUFP Fellow.

Somsook is the Secretary General for the Asian Coalition for Housing Rights (ACHR). At the organization, she shares her more than 30 years of work and expertise in community-driven and community-led development, disaster rehabilitation, community welfare and land development.

ACHR was formed in 1988 and their work focuses on people. The organization believes that people are the key to solving Asia's Urban Poor housing problems. Today, their main project is ACCA or the Asian Coalition for Community Action. The program has supported community-led activities in 165 cities in 19 different countries around Asia in the three years that it has been implemented.
